Casa Tortuga

The Matapalo coastline is an alternation of sandy coves and rocky outcrops.  Casa Tortuga is next to Backwash Bay, which is the middle reach of the Matapalo coastline.  As the pictures below show, though there are rocks, you can walk down and swim in the ocean immediately next to the house, like 40 meters away.  Beachcombers can walk to the north for miles and to the south for about one and a half miles until the rocky bluffs of the cape make further passage treacherous.

Car Rental.  The Matapalo area is best accessed by a 4x4 car since the roads are not in the best of shape.  We recommend Solid Rental Company because it is a national company with the most comprehensive southern zone service.  In addition they offer a wide selection of 4x4 cars.

Beach and Swimming.  The Playa Platanares beach, just ten miles from Puerto Jimenez, is the nicest swimming beach on the entire peninsula and is a must-do activity for anyone needing some beach time.  There is a great little restaurant and bar there and plenty of shade as well as sun and waves that are great for body surfing and miles of sand beaches for beachcoming.
